Sometimes the Future is Terrrible
These days, I try to avoid Spotify and buy CD’s instead. It baffles people. Why would I want to revert to an old medium instead of embracing the future. Here’s a few reasons:
- Spotify doesn’t pay a reasonable amount of money to artists, and never will as long as the market values access to the musical universe at $10/month
- Spotify stands between artists and listeners, killing the natural connection that leads people to directly support the bands they love
- Listeners never really own or control the music they access on Spotify, since it’s all encrypted with DRM
Yes, Spotify is the future, but sometimes the future is terrible. We need to go back and forge a new one.
